Synopsis
An Arctic research expedition prepares to drill ice cores from the frozen tundra to fill in the final gaps of our knowledge of climate change. It’s Dr. Kate Green’s dream come true to lead the scientific team of the expedition, and to study the most promising spot in all of the Arctic. But when the team arrives at the first dig site, they find a strange cave just before their excursion gets cut short by a terrible accident.
Things only get more unnerving from there.
The team struggles to continue their research against the stifling caution of their executive sponsor, the sole survivor of an earlier research expedition in which the rest of the team disappeared. But Kate and her team find a way to collect samples and end up discovering the breakthrough they were seeking. However, when the continual setbacks turn deadly, the group finds their survival threatened by a terrifying unknown presence, and learns their fate is tied to that of the missing previous team.
Things go from bad to worse when the research station’s power dies, forcing Kate outside and into a confrontation with Frankenstein’s Creation. As the surviving members band together, the executive sponsor reveals he has been sabotaging the mission to keep the team’s discovery quiet – just before being dispatched by Frankenstein’s Creation! Kate enjoys a brief moment of hope that the danger has now passed until the creature expresses its disgust with humanity’s treatment of the planet, and climate change’s impact on his haven in the Arctic. Beginning a quest to cleanse the world of mankind’s presence, the creature hunts the team down one by one. Eventually, awaiting rescue as the last survivor, Kate defeats the creature and escapes back to the mainland.
Unfortunately for her, and for the rest of humanity, so does Frankenstein’s Creation…
Frankenstein Returns picks up in the present day based on the final chapters of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley’s classic novel, introducing climate change as the impetus for the creature’s return to the world of men. A classic story can now continue in our time.
